The boy turns FIVE {Edmonton Fmily Photography}

So having a birthday directly following Christmas isn’t the funnest, but we always try to make it special anyhow.  This year we saved Keaton’s friend and fun filled birthday party for the end of January.  So on his birthday we called up grandma, whipped up a cake and headed over to Montana’s for some ribs and a little celebrating. I think Keaton would agree that the day was perfect!

It’s hard to keep an almost 2-year-old sitting!

Keaton even looks cute in horns.

Scott + Shari {Edmonton Wedding Photographer}

On an unseasonably warm remembrance day, I met my good friends Scott and Shari for a few pre-wedding photographs. After the pictures I headed out to Argyll Hall, where I had the pleasure of photographing their intimate candlelight ceremony. congratulations to you both!

Heart Of the Image {Edmonton Photography Classes}

So I was sitting over at my friend Conni’s house a few months ago and we got talking about what we wished that we had available when we started our journey into photography. We chatted about photography classes and how they tended to be geared towards men. And we chatted about how we would run a photography class, and how our photography class would be filled with the type of stuff we wished somebody had taught us when we first picked up a camera. The longer we talked an idea began to formulate, and heart of the image was born.

As Conni and I talked we realized that while there were differences in our journey we had still experienced many of the same things as photographers. Personally, I had some experience with photography and cameras (thank you high school Visual communications classes), and while photography was something I had always been interested in (I bought my first camera in 1989 at Zellers) it wasn’t until I was pregnant with my second child that I began to pursue photography in a more earnest fashion. In he beginning I read everything I could get my hands on books, articles, website and photography forums. I found that after all that reading there was still a gap in my knowledge so I looked at as many child photographer websites and browsed their pictures, trying to figure out where the light was from; how they got those awesome catch lights in their subjects eyes; and how they managed to put together a shot that told a story. Every day I snapped away with my DSLR and yet still there was something missing, something I just couldn’t get. So I began emailing local photographers, I asked them if they offered classes, if they would share their knowledge somehow. Guess what, they said NO and they were darn rude to me to boot.

I struggled to find my feet as a photographer all by myself. Now I am in a position to offer my knowledge, and I won’t even be rude about it!
